Checking a Patient In to a Consultation

Checking a patient in is an optional step. It is typically used when a receptionist handles admissions before the veterinarian begins the consultation. When a veterinarian handles the admission process and begins the consultation directly, the check-in step can be skipped.

Note: The consultation page is currently being updated. Some environments include both the new and the old version, and the old version will be retired. This article covers checking a patient in on both versions.

When a client and patient arrive at the clinic, you can check the patient in in two ways:

  • In the appointment calendar, right-click the appointment and select Check in patient from the menu that opens. This option appears only while the patient is not yet checked in.

  • On the consultation page, select Check in patient. On the old consultation page, the button is in the Consultation details section. On the new consultation page, the button is in the action bar at the bottom of the page, next to Consultation total.

The Admit consultation form opens, showing the consultation details. Check the information, add anything that is missing, then select Check in patient to confirm.

To check a patient in without a booked appointment, see Check In an Existing Patient Without an Appointment.

To skip the check-in step and start the consultation directly, see Start a Consultation.

If a client does not arrive for a booked appointment, you can mark the appointment as a no-show.
