You can use discharge instructions to communicate follow-up information and instructions to clients. See how to add discharge instructions.
Note: The new consultation page is being released during September 2026. You can switch between versions at any time from the top of the consultation page. This article covers how to print and email discharge instructions in both.
Print Discharge Instructions
To print the discharge instructions during a consultation:
New consultation page: in the top-right corner of the Discharge instructions section, select Print.
Old consultation page: select Print above the discharge instructions field.
On the new consultation page, Print and Email appear only after a discharge instruction has been added.
Email Discharge Instructions
Depending on the settings, discharge instructions may be sent with the consultation summary email or invoice automatically.
To send the discharge instructions manually during a consultation:
New consultation page: in the top-right corner of the Discharge instructions section, select Email.
Old consultation page: select Email above the discharge instructions field.
The email address saved in the client's profile is automatically added by default, but you can change it if necessary. If you want to add other patient history data to the email, select the Patient history checkbox and choose how much history to include.
To send the discharge instructions, select Send email.
Print or Email Discharge Instructions in a Multi-Patient Consultation
Note: Multi-patient consultations are not yet available on the new consultation page. To use them, switch to the old version from the top of the consultation page.
In a multi-patient consultation, Print and Email work the same way:
To print or email the discharge instructions of all patients, select Print or Email above the All patients field.
To print or email the discharge instructions of a specific patient, select the patient from the Select patient drop-down list in the right-hand side sidebar, then select Print or Email above that patient's discharge instructions field.
